Our story

We are a small kitchen-making company, based in Somerset, and founded by me David Craigie. Having graduated in Law in 1986, I took a different tack and began training as a woodworker in a workshop in a railway arch in Brixton. The business I worked for made the occasional kitchen, but most of our work was making alcove bookcases in South London. In 1992 I moved to Somerset with a young family and started my first workshop as a one-man band. I made whatever I was asked to, often scouring books (no internet!) to find out how to do something.

In 1997 I joined forces with a friend and we became a partnership, Craigie and Scott, and began employing other makers. We worked with builders in London on large residential projects where we were often responsible for almost all of the joinery works: bathrooms, kitchens, libraries, bedrooms and studies. When my partner left in 2000 to pursue another career, I started Craigie Woodworks. By this time we had gained a lot of experience in kitchen design. From then onwards we defined ourselves as kitchen makers but always with a willingness to make other furniture.

In 2012 we bought a plot of land in Castle Cary, and in 2013 moved into a large purpose-built workshop which we had designed. And over the years we have grown into a team
with a lot of experience and talent. We have two designers, five makers and a painter and a fitter.

Craigie Woodworks is dedicated to designing and making handmade kitchens of the highest quality. Each kitchen is completely bespoke, individually tailored to the customer’s vision and the architecture of their room. We aim to combine imaginative design with excellent cabinet-making skills and the use of the finest materials. We also design and make other bespoke furniture, including bookcases, tables, wardrobes and bathroom cabinets.
