Setting the colour scheme and decor in your newly renovated home can feel overwhelming. With so many amazing ideas and inspiring homes, it can be hard to decide what style works best for your home.

Choosing the right colour palette throughout our homes can have such an impact on the environment of our homes and our mood. With no right or wrong style, it's important to consider what works best for you and your family and be authentic to your own style.

We caught up with COAT Paints, a sustainable paint company who focus on contemporary paint colours, who shared with us what is trending now in the paint world and how to introduce colour confidently into your home.

What paint colours are trending and which are your most popular?

Warm neutrals are a constant especially the warmer, taupe tones like ‘Sunday Soul’. They allow you to nail that neutral vibe but also introduce a very subtle element of colour.

Teals are also having a moment, colours like ‘Adulting’ are really popular either as a feature wall paired with fresh white or as an all-over bold look.

How can I add some interest to warm neutral tones?

Pair with darker accent colours to add definition and create visual contrast.

Consider painting furniture, doors and architraves in black, try 'The Record Store’ to frame corners of the space and channel that Japandi vibe.

Layer up similar neutral tones (light and darker) to add depth to the space.

How do I best choose a palette that suits my home?

Follow your own personal style combined with some thought of how you use the space and how you want it to make you feel.

Decorating a calm bedroom may mean pale pastels with scandi furnishings to some, and a deep dark luxe cocoon-like vibes to others.

Ultimately your home and it’s colour palette should always work for you!

Is there anywhere else I can introduce some colour without painting the entire room?

Definitely, consider a feature wall or painting a piece of furniture. Similar introductions of colour can be incredibly effective.

How important is it to have the same palette throughout the home?

When decorating your home, there is no right or wrong answer - it’s about personal preference and how you want the space to feel.

Having a similar palette throughout the house will certainly create flow.

You don’t need to use the same colour on every wall but can choose a similar palette of colours consistently throughout the house, it’s this repetition of palette used in different ways that keeps things interesting whilst creating that cohesive look.

Is there anything else I should consider when choosing paint colours for my home?

Think about the direction a room is facing as natural light can affect colour. Depending how the light changes throughout the day may influence your paint colour choice and vice versa.
